“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
Matthew 7:11 NKJV
What does most people want out of life? Comfort, happiness, love, possessions. Most people want friends they can trust, money to buy what they want, and good health to enjoy it all. But what does our Father want for us? Good things! The good things He has for those of us that ask are better than can be described. Here are just a few of those things he gives:
• Forgiveness of all the things we have done wrong in our life.
• His Holy Spirit to comfort us and walk beside us in our every step.
• His care for us in every good and bad thing that we experience.
• An assurance in knowing that when it is over, it is just beginning! Yes, eternal life!
Our Father in heaven has given us the very best of “good things”. His Son, Jesus!! It is through our Saviour Jesus Christ that we acquire the very best that our Father has to offer.

The angel in the storm
“For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,”
Acts 27:23 KJV
This verse is taken from the story of a storm that Paul was experiencing called Euroclydon, which means a wind causing broad waves. He was in a ship of 276 souls as a prisoner heading to Italy to appear before Caesar. Much like the hurricanes of which we are familiar, this storm was most destructive. After many days in the storm, it appeared that all hope was lost and that everyone on the ship would not be saved. Then in the midst of the storm, an angel of God appeared!! The angel told Paul to not fear, he was going to appear before Caesar, and all on the ship with him would be saved!!
Metaphorically, we face many such storms in our lives. The loss of a job, the heartache from our children, the death of a dear loved one, or our own failures. It seems that all hope is lost. But as Paul served and belonged to the living God, we too can have an angel of God say to us in the fury of the storm “FEAR NOT!” The question is, do you belong to God? Have you put your faith in his son Jesus? Will you surrender to him and as one of the many benefits, see the angel in the storm?
